Mail Call

I got several pieces of interesting mail in the last couple days.

I got a letter from the Division of Child Support Enforcement for one. They have started a case for me to go after Shawn for child support. Never mind that he's already paying me child support. Apparently it's not enough for them that he and I agree on an amount and he's been paying it faithfully. No, they want to stick their nose in it. And they want to make sure that he's covering the kids on his medical insurance. He is. But it's not enough that he is doing it because he wants to, because it's the right thing to do. No to them it only counts if there's some legal document someplace saying he HAS to! This is so stupid. And such a huge waste of taxpayer money.

I got a letter from the IRS saying I failed to do my taxes correctly, again. This is the third year in the row! I think it's a sign that maybe I shouldn't do my own taxes anymore! LOL This year it was the Additional Child Tax Credit. I checked and double checked and was sure that we didn't qualify for it. But according to them I 'might'. So I did their little worksheet and lo and behold we DID qualify. What this means is another $1800 (wahoo) and another 8 weeks of waiting (boo). Still we should get our taxes before the divorce is final so I guess that's good.

I also got a letter from Kathrynn's school about summer school. It's very very very important to these people that she be reading like a pro by third grade and since she's not up to their standards they think she should go to summer reading classes. I'm not sending her. Kathrynn HATES the forced reading from school. She's starting to say she hates reading which really disturbs me. But I loved the wording on the letter they sent...

Dear Parents,
CONGRATULATIONS! Your child has been nominated to attend summer classes. As you are aware, the Kennewick School District has established high goals and expectations for every child and believes all children need to be reading independently and well by third grade to gain the skills needed in math, science, social studies, and other complex content areas.

The purpose of the summer program is to provide children with intense reading instruction and a variety of opportunities to increase and apply reading skills. The Summer Reading Program will be offered at no cost. Attendance is vital; we do insist that you and your child be committed to attending daily for the full summer program so that they can take full advantage of this extra instruction in reading.
Children will be assigned to the elementary school hosting the summer school program which is closest to your home or daycare address.

Bussing will be provided to and from the same address if the address is outside the walking boundary to the elementary summer school to which your child is assigned.
We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity and expect it to be both beneficial and enjoyable for your child. Please enroll your child by completing the attached registration form and returning it to your child's school immediately. Students are selected on a needs basis and "first come, first served." If the form is not returned in a timely manner your child's spot will be offered to another student. If you have any questions regarding your child's reading needs, contact their teacher or the building reading specialist. If you have any questions regarding the summer reading program please contact your child's school.

I just love how they make it out to be this huge honor! Anyway we won't be doing it. The official reason will be because Kathrynn is spending that portion of the summer with her father.

In other non mail related news I went in and payed $40 to make an appointment with the Court Facilitator. Next Monday she and I will sit down and fill out the divorce papers. Then I will send them to Shawn to sign before filing them. Hopefully since no one is planning any fighting or contesting this will all be done about 90 days after the papers are filed. It would have been cool to have it all legalized on Independence day wouldn't it. LOL But I think it will be more like September.

What a great honor! You should be so proud of Katherine for bestowing this great honor to you and your family.

Poor us, we don't have this very special honor. We are not worthy. I should just boycott all reading since we won't be able to go.

(LOL! What a bunch of freaks!)

Jackie finally started reading a few months ago (age 10). I'm glad she can start learning other subjects now. She has been so deprived.

What a weird combination of authoritarian, threatening, and graciously bestowing. It's like they can't figure out what point of view they are coming from, so they hit all methods of compulsion hoping to catch the one that will reel you in. It's a good thing you're not fooling into wasting your time(and Kathrynn's)
