Heeby Jeebies

I can almost guarantee you will be itching by the time this post is over.

So, where to start? The last week of school Kathrynn came down with lice. I noticed she was itching quite a bit and while I was braiding her hair I saw she had quite the little egg farm going on! EWWW!

I kept her home from school and luckily I was off of work that day. I didn't find any in Aiden or my hair (which is crazy amazing since we all sleep in one bed!) but opted to treat everyone just to be oh the safe side. So we bought the super nasty highly poisonous shampoo to RID ourselves of the lice. I fin it odd that it says if you get it on your skin you should wash it off immediately but we're supposed to completely saturate our hair with it and let it set for 10 minutes. Good thing our scalps are made of super skin...

The next week Aiden came down with chicken pox. My sister's three girls all came down with them the last day of school. I intentionally exposed Aiden since we didn't get the vaccine. My other two nieces were also exposed, since they were vaccinated we didn't expect them to get the pox. They BOTH got them. One of them got a pretty bad case of them too. Makes me further question the logic (or apparent effectiveness) of a chicken pox vaccine.

Aiden has the pox really bad! On the bottoms of his feet, under his eyelids, on his penis. He's been pretty miserable. At one point he had a temp of 104 in his ARMPIT! And that wasn't even accurate because the thermometer hadn't beeped it was just as high as it got before he was tired of letting me stick it in his armpit anymore. He seems to be on the mend though now. And we shouldn't have to worry about pox in this house anymore.

The pox were pretty well timed though because Kathrynn was gone during them. She went to Ohio to be with Shawn and her 'other family'. So I was able to focus my attention on Aiden. The downside was that because she was on the road she didn't get her second lice treatment. :(

So today I picked her up at the Airport in Seattle. She had a good trip and loved that she got to fly home. But when I saw her I thought for a moment SHE might have chicken pox! But no they were flea bites! TONS of them! Apparently Amy's house has fleas and according to Kathrynn spiders and ticks too. FUN!

She's back now and I'm glad to have her lice an all. Yep she STILL has the lice. Poor baby! I treated her again the moment we got home. Hopefully they will go away!

Itchy yet?

LOL

oh my god I am so glad you didn't tell me about the lice. The only thing I am more paranoid and terrified about getting than the chicken pox is lice. I HATE HATE HATE lice.

I had the pox real bad when I was a wee child, too. Bottoms of feet. palms of hands, inside mouth. Thank God I was too young to enjoy them!

I'm totally itching. Having had long hair as a child I think we had lice at least 3 times. *shudder*

Have you tried the oil treatment? Drench her hair with vegetable oil. Repeat about 6 days later.

The most reliable treatment is to pick nits religiously. Or shave her head...

Ewww! I'm itching. We went through it with one child (thankfully only one) but it was tough to get rid of. Didn't have much luck with the vegetable oil treatment.

I think we've decided that these are RID resistant lice. So far the best treatment has been olive oil and lots of it. I intend to do it daily until the lice, or I, are all dead!!!
