California Girl

I went to California last weekend for my cousin's wedding. I flew out Friday late in the morning. It was a whirlwind weekend.

I got to hug my dad. Which was swell because I missed him and it was nice to hug him after the whole heart attack thing. He was in surprisingly good spirits.

I had a 3 hour layover in Denver. So that chalked up one more state on my list of states I've visited. I've now been to six. Although in three of them I was only in the airport! LOL Only 44 more to go.

Friday night I shared a queen sized bed with my Grandma. I didn't really mind at all but apparently she hasn't shared a bed with anyone in 20 years so she didn't get much sleep. Apparently I 'shudder' in my sleep. She said it kept her up. I've never had any complaints like that before.

I forgot my bathing suit. I don't know what I was thinking there.

Saturday night I went to the bachelorete party. No male stripper (female either). I still have yet to see a stripper. Though they all assured me that I'm not missing anything and it's really a horrible and degrading thing anyway, I feel I should make up my own mind on that matter.

My baby cousin Joanna just turned 21. Makes me feel very old as I remember watching her nurse. Also it made the weekend a lot more fun because she's a lot of fun and she can drink now!

We got 'home' at 2am. I went to my cousin Hannah's room (the one getting married) and helped make direction signs for the wedding guests. So I didn't get back to the hotel room where I was staying with my parents (yeah! not Nana) until 3am. Apparently my dad waited up. Crazy man.

Sunday was the wedding. Spent the morning doing the flowers with my Aunt Nora. It was fun. Huge bright pink Gerber daisies.

The wedding was neat. It was outside in a park. The 'groomsmen' were women. And everyone in the wedding wore Converse with their ballgowns. It was cool.

There was food and dancing. I missed my husband.

Since the wedding was at a state park no alcohol was allowed. We went instead to a bar called Avalon afterwards. There's no smoking in bars in California. That totally ROCKED! Well except that meant everyone stayed on the patio as much as possible.

I found out that two of my cousins are also bisexual and I admit that makes me feel a little competitive, make of that what you will. I got pretty damn drunk at the 'after party'. I hit on a lot of gay boys! LOL I think it may have been a gay bar. Though I'm not sure. There wasn't much of a crowd at 10 on a Sunday night. We left by midnight because I had to catch a plane at 7:40am which still means being at the airport by at least 6:40.

Amazingly I woke up at 5am without even trying.

My Aunt Nora drove me to the airport. Apparently she and my baby cousin had stayed up until 2am talking all about everything that I said at the bar! I guess I no longer have any secrets from THAT Aunt! LOL

Talked with a nice German man in the San Francisco airport. We had to re-do our entire conversation midway through because he mistook my being from Washington for being from Washington D.C. That happens a lot. But you'd think in California people wouldn't automatically assume the FAR AWAY Washington. They do.

From the Seattle airport I called Leanne (who was visiting her parents in the Tri-Cities for the weekend) to marvel that for once I was in Seattle and she was in Richland. Tee hee.

Flying over Richland in the plane I felt a really weird connection to the place. Thoughts like "my river" and "my city" floated through my head. It was sickening. *sigh*

Now I'm home and life is back to normal. Except that, notably, my husband and sister cleaned a very large percentage of my house before I got home! So I take back all the bad things I have said about both of them. :)

Pippy

I have long been in love with quails. People who have knowm me since highschool will know this. It's almost a spiritual/mystical thing.

Today at work Shawn found a baby quail. It followed him and a co-worker around the warehouse peeping at them. The mommy never showed up so Shawn brought it home.

So now we have a quail. Best as I can tell they're sorta like chickens. At least it looks like a baby chick. A TINY baby chick.

For the moment I'm calling it Pippy. Any suggestions for helping it not die?

Oh Deer!

I was driving my brother-in-law to work in Sunnyside at 5:30 this morning. I almost hit a deer! It was startling enough to have to slam on my breaks that early in the morning as a deer darted across the roadway, but 100 times more so considering I was driving down Williams at the time!

The thing ran out of Resthaven Cemetary and across Williams into the Hapo parking lot!

If my brother-in-law hadn't seen it too I might have thought I was dreaming.

His response to my total shock and amazment over the deer was "What? Haven't you ever seen a deer before?"

No Vacations For You!

Found out yesterday that my father, while vacationing in San Diego, suffered yet another heart attack. I believe the current count is three. The last one was while he was vacationing in Hawaii!

He had surgery and is doing well. But my mom is getting tired of vacationing in hospitals.

He's no longer allowed to vacation.

Yesterday I got rid of two of our little hamsters. And gained one. At least we are slightly less populated for the moment.

Hamster Tails

We're slowly being over run by hamsters. Which then begs the question why did I BUY a new one last night?! Well the answer is simple. She's BEAUTIFUL!

Meet Snow White...

She's an Albino dwarf hamster. She's adorable and sweet and I HAD to buy her. She will be Cinderella's new mate since Belle passed away.

Here's the new couple enjoying getting to know one another...

But Snow White is not the only new addition in our hamster world.

Before Belle left us she blessed us with three litters of pups. From the second litter we ended up with two who mated. Their first litter produced 5 babies. Two who were not developing properly (probably because of repeated inbreeding) 'disappeared' and three survived. Of those three, two are developing normally...

The third however is not developing normally and is insanely small. I'm shocked it's alive at all. But it is and it's eating food and drinking and running around...

We separated the reproducing siblings but not before they surprised us with a litter of 7!!

Here is mom from above...

and here are the babies from below (kind of her to have them on the see through part of the cage so we could get a peek)...

I'm hoping none or very few of them have this deformity.

Our next plan (once we buy a 4th cage) is to buy a new mate for the brother hamster (who needs a name, any suggestions). We're trying to bring in new blood so as not to have more of these inbreeding problems.

Anyone want a baby hamster? ;)

If You Give a Kid a Box...

I got this box a while back from work. It's huge! The kids have been playing with it off and on. Today they wrangled it to the top bunk of their bunk bed (Don't ask me how! Your guess is as good as mine.) Then demanded I cut them a door. They have been playing in it peacefully for sometime but now they require pancakes. ;-)

Something to Say?

I think I may have re-enabled some comments on my blog. At least this is the goal... We'll see if it's working or not.

While some of your behavior is quite normal...

Other things you do are downright strange

You've got a little of your freak going on

But you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself

Long Absence

I've had my internet back for a while now I just haven't felt much like blogging. You know, it's like when you have an hour long dentist appointment in the middle of the day and therefore feel no guilt over taking the whole rest of the afternoon off. It's like that. Without the drill.

So to catch everyone up. I'm not working much these days. One or two days a week is all. Just enough time in between to start forgetting what the hell I'm doing.

I've been meeting people online a lot lately. Which is unusual. I think it might be connected to signing up on a matchmaker site.... hmmm.... Don't worry I'm not going to run away with anyone or anything. They all seem like losers anyway. Except one guy who lives in England and is my soul mate but he hates me because I own the first two seasons of Friends. Ok, well, maybe he's not so much my soulmate as someone I wish were my soulmate if only I had a different soul.

Here's what I have learned about myself though from chatting up strangers.

1) I hate people who use too much internet lingo. "Hw R u bb?" is not a sentence and severely limits the chance you will ever get in my pants. EVER!

2) Nobody is as honest as I am on the internet.

3) I'm not impressed by your imaginary fleet of expensive cars or mythical masters degree, really, I'm not.

4) I really like my webcam.

5) But more so, I HATE other people's webcams.

6) My husband is a poo, but I appreciate him more and more all the time. Even if he won't find me software to make movies with my webcam.
